data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div><p class=\"Heading\">There is a less known tradition of composers receiving melodies and songs when dreaming.<\/p><\/div><div><p class=\"Body\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u00a0<\/span>We can take two examples provided in Lewis M. Holmes\u2019 fascinating book, T<u>he Mystery of Music;<\/u><\/p><\/div><div><p class=\"Body\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">The first is from ancient China, where the reforming <i>Emperor XUANDONG<\/i>, who took a keen interest in music both as a state regulated activity and a composer himself, is alleged to have drawn inspiration from dreams. <i>YO SHI<\/i> a later commentator reported that \u2018the Emperor composed a song called \u201c<i>Return to the Purple Clouds<\/i>\u201d after having dreamt of ten immortals descending in chariots, holding musical instruments, and singing. Dreaming of a dragon lady supposedly led him to compose the song titled \u201c<i>Skimming the Waves.<\/i>\u201d According to Chinese legend, it was a fantastic visit to the moon that inspired his. composition <i>Nishan yuyi qu\u2019<\/i><\/span><a title=\"\" href=\"applewebdata:\/\/29BBF78D-9C49-43BA-8006-78E1794FB530#_edn1\" name=\"_ednref1\"><i><sup><span lang=\"EN-US\"><b>[i]<\/b><\/span><\/sup><\/i><\/a><\/p><\/div><div><p class=\"Body\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/div><div><p class=\"Body\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">The second example is from Al-Andal\u016bs and the musician, singer and composer <i>Ziry\u0101b, <\/i>who lived between 790 and 850 CE. <i>Ziry\u0101b<\/i> would sleep but have two attendant slaves on the alert each night, named <i>Ghizl\u0101n<\/i> and <i>Hunayada. Ziry\u0101b<\/i> \u00a0would sleep and if he dreamt of a new song or melody, he would awake and teach these musically trained slaves the music and words to memorise which they would then dutifully play for him the next morning. Then he would revise the compositions.<\/span><a title=\"\" href=\"applewebdata:\/\/29BBF78D-9C49-43BA-8006-78E1794FB530#_edn2\" name=\"_ednref2\"><sup><span lang=\"EN-US\">[ii]<\/span><\/sup><\/a><\/p><\/div><div><p class=\"Body\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/div><div><p class=\"Body\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">To demonstrate that dreaming of music is still relevant in modern times, we can turn to a contemporary, Paul McCartney. In McCartney\u2019s own words as reported by Hugh MacIntyre on the 22 February 2024, in Forbes Magazine, <\/span><span dir=\"RTL\" lang=\"AR-SA\">\u201c<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">I went to sleep one night and dreamed a tune. Somewhere in my dream I heard this tune. When I woke up, I go I love that tune\u2013it<\/span><span dir=\"RTL\" lang=\"AR-SA\">\u2019<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">s great. I love that one,\u201d McCartney stated in the interview. He added that once he was awake and realized he had something special in mind, he <\/span><span dir=\"RTL\" lang=\"AR-SA\">\u201c<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">kind of fell out of bed and the piano was right there to the left of my bed and I just sort of thought well I<\/span><span dir=\"RTL\" lang=\"AR-SA\">\u2019<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">ll try and work out how this song goes.\u201d<\/span><a title=\"\" href=\"applewebdata:\/\/29BBF78D-9C49-43BA-8006-78E1794FB530#_edn3\" name=\"_ednref3\"><sup><span lang=\"EN-US\">[iii]<\/span><\/sup><\/a><span lang=\"EN-US\"> The song McCartney is referring to, is the classic and unforgettable, \u2018Yesterday\u2019. How many more musical compositions are there out there dreamt by their composers? How often do we dream new melodies? <\/span><\/p><\/div><div><div><hr align=\"left\" size=\"1\" width=\"33%\" \/><div id=\"edn1\"><p class=\"Footnote\"><a title=\"\" href=\"applewebdata:\/\/29BBF78D-9C49-43BA-8006-78E1794FB530#_ednref1\" name=\"_edn1\"><sup>[i]<\/sup><\/a> <span lang=\"EN-US\">HOLMES. Chr. lebte. Ziry\u0101b schlief, hatte aber jede Nacht zwei Sklaven namens Ghizl\u0101n und Hunayada, die Wache hielten. Ziry\u0101b schlief, und wenn er von einem neuen Lied oder einer neuen Melodie tr\u00e4umte, wachte er auf und brachte diesen musikalisch ausgebildeten Sklaven die Musik und die Worte bei, die sie ihm dann am n\u00e4chsten Morgen pflichtbewusst vorspielten. Er f\u00fcgte hinzu, dass er, als er wach war und merkte, dass er etwas Besonderes im Sinn hatte, \u201eirgendwie aus dem Bett fiel und das Klavier genau dort links von meinem Bett war und ich mir einfach dachte, na ja, ich werde versuchen, herauszufinden, wie dieses Lied geht.\u201c Das Lied, auf das sich McCartney bezieht, ist das klassische und unvergessliche \u201eYesterday\u201c. Wie viele weitere Musikkompositionen gibt es da drau\u00dfen, von denen ihre Komponisten getr\u00e4umt haben?
